Every morning farm-hand Hans woke up bright and early looking forward to the spoils of the smallholding; newly laid brown eggs, bread with creamy yellow butter and a tankard of milk so fresh it was practically mooing. But this morning when he awoke there was no delicious aroma of baking bread and all was worryingly still. Where was Margreta, the comely milkmaid? He slipped out of bed to investigate and as he passed the dog and cat pen, such a sight awaited him that he almost fainted clean away. Poor Margreta had been eaten alive by his pet pup and faithful feline. Hans was livid! Who would milk the cows now?
