'Foul'
'Foul'

Tonight the pubs will be filled with people excitedly watching the England game, after which they'll make their way home either elated or depressed, and go to bed. But for others it's not as straightforward. Many people in relationships with abusive partners dread major footballing competitions. I was horrified recently to read the statistics on domestic violence and football. Research from the National Centre for Domestic Violence reveals that domestic abuse incidents increase by 26% when our national team plays, 38% if they lose, and 11% the day after, regardless of the outcome. Domestic abuse organisations frequently warn that while neither alcohol nor the Euros create or excuse domestic abuse, they can exacerbate pre-existing patterns and provide perpetrators with an opportunity to ramp up mistreatment.
For this brand new piece, entitled 'Foul', I smashed up white and red crockery to represent the violence endured by many. When sold, I will be donating 25% of all proceeds to Women's Aid.
Materials used: White and red crockery, tile adhesive, wood
